Description

What is Surface Level Pro® and why do I need a top coat?

Surface Level Pro® works by filling in the uneven area with a mixture of recycled rubber crumb, polystyrene beads and a binding adhesive that forms a strong, yet light, surface. It is lightweight, quick and easy to use and as environmentally friendly as possible. It will fill up the dips where the water is pooling and make your flat roof flat again. Once a top coat has been applied it is completely water tight and you can say goodbye standing water problems on your flat roof.

You need to topcoat the Surface Level Pro® once it’s been applied and before it rains.

The top coat seals the Surface Level Pro® so that water can’t get in. We sell the top coat as an add-on product in case customers have their own product already. If you are using your own top coat please bear in mind it needs to be thick (preferably fibre reinforced) as a thin coat will drip through into the filler.

One tin of top coat should be enough to cover one kit of Surface Level Pro® but there is the option to buy more.
The top coat:

  • The Fibre Reinforced is a super strong fibre-reinforced liquid rubber and you need to apply it with a trowel. It’s important it’s applied thickly enough that it doesn’t soak through into the Surface Level Pro® and whilst you might be tempted to use a short pile roller it is not easy to get the coating to lay smooth and the fibres could clump up.

Can you walk on Surface Level Pro?

Yes, you can walk on Surface Level Pro. As always, ensure the rubber crumb is tampered down hard and you have layered with a top coat, then you’ll be good to go!

Can I apply your GRP Coating over Surface Level Pro?

Before applying the GRP Coating, you must first use a top coat to seal in the Surface Level Pro. After that, you can apply the GRP Coating. You cannot use the GRP Coating as a substitute for the top coat because it is not thick enough to seal the Surface Level Pro.
Size:
One size bucket.
Coverage:
1bucket will cover a hole approximately 1M wide by 1M long and 18mm deep. See coverage guide opposite for more variations in depth and width coverage.

Application:
Get the surface clean and dry. Mix accelerator and binder then apply mixture onto affected area and a bit beyond. Mix up all the bucket ingredients with remaining binder in mixing bag. Pack the filling mixture into the affected area and pack down. Once dried apply a layer of top coat, either our own or a top coat that you already have.

APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS

Prepare:

Identify the ponding area and mark an outline on the roof surface with paint. Thoroughly clean the area and make any needed repairs to ensure a good bond. Make sure the area is dry. Note: Pressure washing or cleaning with an all-purpose cleaner can help with extremely dirty areas.

Prime:

Note: mix the material after priming. Pour the small accelerator provided into the binder and mix/shake thoroughly. Apply this mixture as a primer onto the ponding area earlier outlined with the paint brush provided BUT make sure you paint the primer on an extra 50mm round the edge of where the Surface Level Pro® will end. You don’t have to wait for the primer to dry before packing in the filler.

Mix:

Pour all the rubber granules, polystyrene beads and the remaining binder into the mixing bag, seal with the cable tie and mix everything at once, usually only takes 4-5 minutes to mix. We recommend rolling the bag on a smooth surface to get the best mixture. If you only need a small amount, mix in the bucket.

Spread & Compress:

Open the bag and pour the contents over the desired area and spread the mixture using a trowel or straight-edge. Wet the trowel in solvent to stop the components sticking ( you may need to keep dipping it but if you use too much it will affect the binder setting properly). We recommend using a spirit level to check that you have spread it to the gradient desired. IMPORTANT; It is essential to compress the material thoroughly using the trowel, especially around perimeter to minimize water infiltration and make a smooth surface for the top coat. Wait until the Surface Level Pro® is dry before applying the top coat.

Top Coat:

If you are not using your own top coat, use our Fibre Reinforced, which is a super strong fibre-reinforced liquid rubber. Apply it with a trowel. It’s important it’s applied thickly enough that it doesn’t soak through into the Surface Level Pro® and whilst you might be tempted to use a short pile roller it is not easy to get the coating to lay smooth and the fibres could clump up.

Note: If it looks like it might rain before you can apply the top coat, make sure you cover it well so that no water can get in as it won’t be able to drain away.
